About this role

This role sits within our Real Estate sector which works with market leaders in commercial real estate to develop and deliver innovative global zero carbon strategies. Our clients are building owners, real estate investors and developers and our services are shaped to help them transition to a net zero economy.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and delivery of our ESG Assurance and Verification services for new and existing real estate and corporate clients. You will use your real estate environmental reporting experience to deliver both assurance and assurance-adjacent consulting services, such as pre-assurance / assurance readiness assessments, or development of assurance-ready ESG reporting methodologies. For this part of the role, interest in assurance, critical thinking, thoroughness, and exceptional attention to detail are essential.

Our Report for Zero service delivers outstanding, fully automated, environmental data reporting and insights, using cutting edge technology to track, verify and report on net zero progress, ensuring our clients comply with legislation and meet their voluntary and mandatory reporting requirements.

As Consultant, you work with industry leaders in the real estate market and play an important role in delivering on their vision. Your focus is on the implementation of data collection, visualisation, analysis and reporting, providing performance insights and benchmarking of real estate assets. By engaging with a wide range of key stakeholders on a day-to-day basis, you play your part in managing sustainability risks and realising opportunities across the portfolios.

You provide experienced technical resource and support to projects and business development activities and meet or exceed targeted levels of utilisation and productivity. You act as project manager for small to medium size reporting and compliance projects, whilst supporting large programmes, acting as a trusted point of contact to some of the UK’s leading real estate sustainability teams.

How you contribute

    Project management    You support and manage data management and environmental reporting projects to ensure delivery to client on time, to quality, and within agreed budget.  By doing so, you support the delivery of our clients’ sustainability objectives.

    Technical delivery          You conduct data collection, critical analysis, and visualisation to deliver insights into the environmental performance of real estate assets, and to assure reporting and insights delivered by others.

    Business development & proposal writing           You assist and lead on proposal creation through the collation of required information and provide support to managers and directors in order to achieve sales targets.

    Client management       You maintain and develop strong professional relationships with existing and new clients, and act as a trusted point of contact.  You develop an external network through which to champion Verco’s services.

    Performance targets      You take shared responsibility for meeting or exceeding targeted levels of personal performance and productivity, and are proactive about advertising capacity levels and availability.

    Operational                     You provide timely responses to operational needs including invoicing, reviews, project management information, timesheets, health & safety.

    Environmental                You contribute to Verco’s sustainability targets and internal CSR team objectives when required.

What you bring

Here are the key things you need to be able to demonstrate, plus some others that are great to have but not essential. 

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential:            Degree (or equivalent) in environmental, sciences, engineering, economics, accounting, or an equivalent relevant area

Desirable:           Masters or relevant post-graduate qualification

Membership of a professional institution, or possession of an accreditation, in the environmental, accounting, or another relevant field, e.g.  IEMA, CIMA, etc.

Employment Experience  

Essential:            Experience of:

·       successfully managing projects to deliver high quality to deadlines and within budget

·       delivering complex environmental data management, and environmental and GHG reporting, ideally for real estate portfolios

·       delivery of assurance, auditing, or verification of financial or environmental reporting to accepted standards

·       supporting bids and delivering proposals

Desirable:           Experience of:

·       account management and new business development with clients

·       automation of environmental data collection using a variety of techniques (e.g. automatic metering, API connections, scraping bills etc)

·       implementing carbon accounting software (e.g., IBM Envizi, Deepki, Building Minds, Scaler, or equivalent). 

·       delivering submissions to disclosure frameworks such as GRESB, SECR, REEB, or others

·       assurance of environmental data to ISAE 3000 or ISO standards

·       use of technology, financial, legislative and market instruments to support the achievement of environmental or carbon mitigation objectives, and to report on progress towards them

·       leading meetings, facilitating & presenting at workshops & seminars

 

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential:            Knowledge & understanding of:

·       the GHG Protocol

·       wider sustainability issues & carbon management in real estate

·       one or more of the key voluntary environmental investor reporting initiatives, such as GRESB, REEB, CDP & SBTi

·       one or more of UK and European climate change and environmental policy and disclosure frameworks, such as SECR, UK SDR, EU Taxonomy, SFDR, CSRD, and others

·       the principles of assurance / verification

 Desirable:           Knowledge & understanding of:

·       one or more of real estate environmental certifications, such as NABERS, LEED, BREEAM, Energy Star, etc

·       ISO 14064

·       ISAE 3000

 

Skills / Competencies

Essential:           

·       Experience in account management, managing client expectations & building/maintaining strong relationships

·       Strong project management skills

·       Ability to manipulate large data sets and undertake effective analysis, presenting for internal & external reporting purposes

·       Strong communicator, both verbal & written

·       Sophisticated analytical approach

·       Exceptional attention to detail and thoroughness

·       Ability to work independently & creatively on challenging problems

·       High level of competence in the use of IT, incl. MS Office, especially Excel

Desirable:          

·     Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI and other Office 365 products

·     Familiar with the use of financial frameworks and models

·     Foreign languages
