Top Real Estate trends for 2025
The 2025 Net Zero in Real Estate report is now available for you to download.
The report is informed by responses from Verco’s 2025 Net Zero in Real Estate Survey. We canvassed the views of real estate organisations, primarily with property interests across the UK and Europe, to learn about key net zero developments and priorities for the sector. We've also included commentary from our team, so you can move into the new year equipped with expert advice.
What to expect in 2025
Climate action and the broader sustainability agenda remain key concerns for the real estate sector. Market leaders continue to call for governments to bring in regulations and incentives to motivate wider progress towards net zero.
Operational and embodied carbon
Reducing operational carbon emissions remains the number one priority for 2025, and organisations are beginning to pivot from planning to delivery and implementation. This is encouraging for the wider climate change agenda, since 80% of the 2050 building stock is already standing. Increasing focus is also being placed on embodied carbon, which rose to second position overall among the survey responses.
Priority activities
A large number of respondents still feel there is work to do in setting or refining their strategies. Many also aim to improve their understanding of their assets through data monitoring, analytics and net zero carbon audits.
What’s standing in the way?
Budget constraints and the difficulty of collecting accurate data were the top two challenges for the sector. The report discusses who these issues are affecting and how best to overcome them.
