Verco's research into carbon offsetting and reduction for international aviation
From 2016 to 2018, Verco were commissioned under the FCO’s Global Britain Fund with the British Embassy in Russia to provide policy advice and evaluation for the Russian Federation. Over three years, we delivered research and advice for the Ministry for Economic Development and Ministry for Natural Resources on international best practice examples of carbon regulation, carbon pricing and energy efficiency policy including the UK. As a business, Verco has been involved with policy projects at the highest international levels since the 1990s - we were one of the founders of the UK Emissions Trading scheme in 1999 - and we continue to help shape the structure of today’s international regulatory landscape.
In September 2018, Senior Consultant Adam Smith presented the findings of a research project looking at the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, or CORSIA, an emission reduction approach for the global airline industry, developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Adam spoke at the second Climate Forum of Russia Cities, held in Moscow, alongside an international panel of guest speakers from across Europe and Asia.
In our document downloads section you will find our research report detailing the key features and aims of CORSIA, its implementation plan, and details of the Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) processes – a key focus of our study.
