We achieved carbon neutrality in 2020 and have been ISO14001 accredited since 2011 but it doesn’t stop there; we’ve set our Net Zero Pathway and contribute to BIP’s Science Based Net Zero Target. Since 2016, we’ve reduced our Scope 1 & 2 emissions per employee by more than 80%.
Our clients' carbon reduction targets contribute to 1MtCO2 of annual emissions reductions by 2025 which is 1% of the UK’s required reductions for the fourth carbon budget.
Our busy CSR team encourage everyone at Verco to participate in initiatives throughout the year, while our EDI committee ensure an active commitment to inclusion. We celebrate events such as Diversity awareness month, Earth day, Pride, and much more.
Through our volunteering days we have helped to preserve natural environments, working with Wildlife Trusts and other environmental organisations:
The Chorley team got creative, decorating dorm rooms at the charitable residential outdoor activity centre which specialises in stays for disabled and disadvantaged youths and adults.
The London team slipped into their wellies for a day of volunteering at Stepney City Farm, helping with composting, animal pen cleaning, litter picking and animal grooming.
The Overmoor team joined the woodland volunteers, setting up areas for new trees to be planted, clearing the community woodland, and learning about the native species
The Chorley team took part in aiding the restoration of peatland for the Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside at Holiday Moss.
Verco’s Overmoor team contributed to increasing the meadow diversity by removing turf and replanting wild flowers. A rewarding day.
The 4th year returning to Brockholes, a 250 acre nature reserve. The Verco Team were removing evasive trees and repurposing them as dead hedging for a beautiful sustainable look-out point on the lake.
Our Overmoor office donated a day of time to help maintain the 24-acre community woodland on the Western edge of Bath.
Verco Chorley returned to this Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, helping to maintain the meadows by removing ragwort and dock which are unsuitable for livestock.
We collected nettles to make valuable liquid fertilizer for use on the farm, removed the very poisonous plant; Dog’s Mercury and prepared signs for painting.
We gathered and prepared log piles for sale to generate funds for the upkeep of this important area of woodland.
We assisted in the upkeep of the animals and prepared vegetable beds to be used to educate children and support young people in their community projects.
We worked with the Reserve officer to build dead hedges with the purpose of allowing public access off the footpath, while protecting the wildlife and their homes.
We pulled up Himalayan Balsam, a non-native invasive plant.
We built two portable foot bridges for use on the reserve in winter, to cross flooded ditches for coppicing and maintenance work.
We picked litter around the pathways, repainted the wooden walkways and pulled up invasive plants from the surrounding lake edge.
At one of the community gardens we prepared the ground and planted seed beds.
We installed an information board and a disability access gate.
We helped to maintain the Heritage Gardens, pulling up weeds, turning the soil, sweeping up the fallen leaves.
We helped to clear an area covered in weeds in preparation for a new bed for planting.
We pulled nettles and cleared banks.
